CHEYNE KENDALL OF SCHREINER UNIVERSITY, a junior from Deer Park, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Men's Golfer-of-the-Week for tournaments played Wednesday, February 26 through Tuesday, March 4.
Kendall won his third collegiate
tournament, shooting back-to-back rounds of 70, to lead Schreiner
to the team victory at the Schreiner Spring Shootout at Comanche
Trace. The Mountaineers took the top three individual spots
in the tournament.
Going into the day with a five shot lead, Schreiner shot a 290 to
win by 15 strokes over a trio of teams made up of 17th-ranked
Concordia-TX, 30th-ranked Mary Hardin-Baylor and Centenary College
which all shot 600 over 36 holes of play.
Schreiner head coach Ron Macosko had this to say about
Kendall's performance, "We hate to talk about
individual performances but you have to be really happy for Cheyne.
He's played really good golf all year but just hasn't been
rewarded. In the past, he might press or get ahead of himself, but
he's really taken a step forward this year. This time around, he
put his head down and just kept working. He busted out in a big way
and everyone is happy to see that."
The 23rd-ranked Mountaineers next play in three weeks at the
JDG/UT-Dallas Spring Classic in Garland, Texas.
