CHITRA
KAVOUSPOUR OF AUSTIN COLLEGE, a senior outside
hitter and four-year starter on the women's volleyball team,
has been selected the SCAC Character & Community Female
Student-Athlete-of-the-Week for the week ending December 13,
2009.
Kavouspour, who hails from Plano, Texas, is a
Biology/ESS major who hopes to attend medical school and begin
practicing as a geriatric doctor. Her study off campus has included
time at the St. Elizabeth Hospital Trauma Unit where she shadowed a
variety of specialists for a period of four weeks.
During her time at Austin College, Kavouspour has
exhibited leadership qualities in various volunteer efforts. She
was part of MVP - Mentor In violence Prevention - after being
nominated to go through a three-day training process. After
completing training, Kavouspour helped students on
campus to learn about the issues of violence in day-to-day
situations and also helped to inform students on physical and
mental abuse and where to get help.
Kavouspour was also a C/I (Communication Inquiry)
Leader for a group of 20 freshman students during the 2009 fall
semester. In this capacity, she helped run class discussions,
prepare students, revise papers and evaluate presentations.
A member of Alpha Delta Chi Sorority since 2007,
Kavouspour has also served as a volunteer with the
Sneed Texoma prairie restoration and the Texoma Womens Crisis
center.
