The 'Roos got on the board first in the top of the second when sophomore Brian Hernandez singled home freshman Emily Low, and a RBI by sophomore Mary Whitworth made it a 2-0 game in the third. The 'Roos plated two more in the top of the fourth to make it 4-0 on a two run double by Rossmann.
A RBI groundout by sophomore Holly Molenaar in the fourth and a RBI double by freshman Nichole Schoenherr in the fifth cut the 'Roos lead to 4-2.
It looked like the Mountaineers would get closer in
the sixth inning when freshman Sammi Scudder led off with a
double. She advanced to third on a groundout and appeared to
score on Victoria Molenaar's, what would've been, a sacrifice fly,
but was called out for leaving the base early.
The Mountaineers put two runners on with two outs in the bottom
of the seventh, looking for a late rally, but Rossmann fielded a
grounder to third and got the force out to secure the
win.
Sophomore Sophia Hernandez allowed just three hits in earning
her ninth pitching victory of the year, which was also her 15th
complete game of the season. Freshman Destiny Rodriguez took the
loss for Schreiner. Freshman Dominique Sandoval threw three
scoreless innings in relief for the Mountaineers.
