Men’s soccer salvages trip with 4-1 victory over Majors

JACKSON, Miss. – The Haverford College men's soccer team closed out its two-game trip to Mississippi with an impressive 4-1 victory over host Millsaps College Wednesday evening. Haverford scored four unanswered goals over the final 68 minutes of the contest.

A night after surrendering 15 shots to Mississippi College, Haverford's (6-7) defense clamped down, allowing seven shots and just five on goal. Millsaps (7-6) took two shots in the first six minutes, but only two the rest of the half.

In the sixth minute the Majors got on the board first with a goal from Daniel Moise. Moise beat goalkeeper Jamey Applegate 1v1 for the score. The Fords evened things up in the 22nd minute when Max Stossel fed Julien Calas, who shot from eight yards out past a sliding Dylan Broussard. The Scarlet and Black took a one-goal lead before the end of the half on a cross from Matt Gorski to Chris Dioguardi into the box.

Haverford continued its scoring early in the second half. Five minutes in Tyler Freeman scored his first goal of the season as he beat his defender on the dribble and kicked the ball into the lower left corner. The game saw eight shots over the next 34 minutes, but an accidental shot by a Majors defender off a Haverford cross found the goal for the final score.

Applegate made four saves in goal for HC while Broussard stopped seven shots for the Majors.

The Fords return to Centennial Conference action Saturday when they travel to No. 22 Dickinson College. Kick-off is set for 3:30 p.m.
