
MEGHAN GANNON OF COLORADO COLLEGE, a first-year libero from Cleveland, Ohio, has been named SCAC Volleyball Defensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, October 16 through Sunday, October 22. SCAC Volleyball Release (Week 8)
Gannon led the Tigers with 58 digs (5.27 digs per set) as CC went 3-0 last weekend with victories over Austin College, Centenary and Dallas, to secure a spot in the SCAC Tournament. Behind the first-year's strong defensive play, Colorado College held its three opponents to a collective .101 hitting percentage over the weekend.
Gannon is now averaging 4.71 digs per set, good for fifth in the conference.
Other impressive performances in the SCAC:
First-year libero Laynie Kovacs of Austin College had another big week as the 'Roos went 2-2, including picking up their first win over UT-Dallas in 15 years. Kovacs totaled 107 digs in four matches, notching at least 20 in all four with a high of 36 in a five set match against Trinity. She averaged 6.29 digs-per-set overall and 6.07 in three SCAC matches, with only five reception errors, while also adding 20 assists and 11 service aces. Senior libero Nadia Kern of Trinity averaged 3.78 digs per set as 11th-ranked Trinity remained unbeaten in SCAC play with wins over Dallas, Austin College, and Centenary over the weekend. Kern tallied 34 total digs over the weekend, including 20 in the win over Austin College, and seven in just one set of action against Centenary.
