Karlee Holmes, Southwestern University, Defensive Player of the Week (Week 3)

KARLEE HOLMES OF SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY, a freshman defender from Austin, Texas, has been named the SCAC Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for games played through Sunday, September 15th.

Holmes helped anchor a defense that posted two more shutouts last week to bring its total to four on the season as the Pirates improved to 5-0 for the first time in the SCAC era, which dates back to the 1994 campaign. Holmes also chipped in on the offensive side of the ball, scoring the lone goal in the 1-0 victory against Howard Payne.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior goalkeeper Maya Erwin of Austin College had another outstanding weekend in goal, logging 200 minutes and surrendering just two goals while making 18 saves. Erwin had eight stops in a tie with ETBU and 10 saves in a loss to Dallas. Against ETBU, she preserved the draw early in the first overtime by making a save on a penalty kick. Junior goalkeeper Natalie Kutac of Dallas played the final 65 minutes of a 1-1 tie against McMurry University. Kutac snagged all four saves against shots faced that included a difficult stop in the second overtime. Freshman goalkeeper Maddie Saucedo of Schreiner was excellent in net for the Mountaineers securing 17 saves in two contests last week, including posting a shutout in a 0-0 tie against Sul Ross St. on Sunday. Junior defender Lindsey Peng of Trinity led the Tigers to a 1-1 record in Washington over the weekend, including the team’s third shutout in five games to start the year. Peng and the Tiger defense allowed just one goal and five on-target shots in the two games. She also contributed assists on Trinity’s first two goals in Sunday’s win over Willamette - including the assist on the game-winning goal.
