LINDSEY PENG OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a sophomore defender from Spring, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Women’s Soccer Defensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played the week of Monday, October 8th to Sunday, October 14th.
Peng led Trinity to a pair of home shutout wins over Texas Lutheran and Dallas over the weekend, remaining undefeated in SCAC play. Peng had a goal and two assists over the two games, all the while pacing a defense that allowed just four total shots and recorded its 11th and 12th shutouts of the season.
After a 1-0 halftime lead against TLU on Friday, Peng netted an unassisted goal in the 55th minute to spark a three-goal second half for the Tigers. She also assisted on Trinity’s only goals of the second half in Sunday’s win over Dallas. This season, Peng is tied for the team lead with eight assists and scored her second goal of the year this week.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior goalie Mary Cardone of Southwestern collected six saves last week as the Pirates went 1-1 with the victory coming via a shutout against Centenary. Cardone now has six shutouts on the season, currently the second most in the SCAC. Junior goalkeeper Stephanie Barrientos of Texas Lutheran posted her second shutout of the season with three saves in the 1-0 victory against Johnson & Wales last Sunday. Barrientos now leads the SCAC with 67 saves on the season.
