JULIA KELLY OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a senior midfielder from Grand Island, N.Y., has been selected the SCAC Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for the week beginning October 2nd.
Kelly led the 12th-ranked Tiger women's soccer team to a pair of shutouts in SCAC action, defeating Schreiner at home, and Dallas on the road.
Kelly and the Trinity defense limited the opposition to just two total shots over the past week, including Friday's win over Dallas during which the Tigers didn't allow any shots.
In addition to her defensive prowess, Kelly scored a pair of goals in the win over the Crusaders on Friday afternoon.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior forward Mady Akers of Southwestern University played on the defensive line for the Pirates, leading the team to a pair of shutouts while also tallying one goal and one assist. Sophomore goalkeeper Stephanie Barrientos of Texas Lutheran University totaled nine saves in a pair of wins for the Bulldogs last week, allowing just one goal in the two games.
