TARA ARMSTRONG OF TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a senior defender from Lincoln, Calif., has been selected the SCAC Women’s Soccer Co-Defensive Player of the Week for matches played Monday, October 3rd through Sunday, October 9th.
She shares this week's honor with first-year goalkeeper Mary Cardone of Southwestern University.
Armstrong led a TLU defense that did not allow a goal in two shutout victories on the road - a 3-0 victory at Austin College on Friday and a 1-0 shutout of Centenary on Sunday.
A team captain and central defender, Armstrong also notched an assist in Friday's win over Austin College.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
First-year goalkeeper Mary Cardone of Southwestern University had 12 saves and no goals allowed in 168 minutes of conference play as the Pirates posted two road wins - a 5-0 victory at Centenary on Friday and a 1-0 blanking of Austin College on Sunday. In addition to making six saves in each contest, Cardone posted the rare goalkeeper assist in Friday's victory at Centenary. Sophomore defender Madee Gallagher of Trinity University led the third-ranked Tigers to a 5-0 shutout in the team's only game last week, defeating the University of Texas-Dallas on the road. Gallagher and the Tiger defense held the Comets to just three total shots in the game, posting the team's fifth consecutive shutout victory.
