Julia Kelly, Trinity University, Co-Defensive Player of the Week (Week 5)

JULIA KELLY OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a junior midfielder from Grand Island, NY., has been selected the SCAC Women’s Soccer Co-Defensive Player of the Week for matches played Monday, September 26th through Sunday, October 2nd.

Kelly led #3 Trinity to a pair of shutout victories over the weekend as the Tigers took over first place in the SCAC standings by beating Southwestern and Texas Lutheran.

Kelly scored the only goal of the game in Friday's win over Southwestern, then assisted on the eventual game-winner against Texas Lutheran on Sunday.

Additionally, Kelly captained a Tiger defense that didn't allow a shot to TLU in the weekend finale, and gave up just one shot in Friday's narrow win over Southwestern.

The win over Southwestern put Trinity atop the conference table. For the season, Kelly and Trinity have recorded seven total shutouts - including 4 straight. Kelly has scored 4 goals and 2 assists on the year, and now leads the team with 3 game-winning goals.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Freshman goal keeper Mary Cardone of Southwestern University logged 16 saves while allowing just 2 goals, including only one to #3 Trinity. Cardone recorded an impressive .889 goals against average through the two games. Senior goalkeeper Erica Coker of Centenary College recorded a pair of important saves in the 51st minute against Dallas, breaking a 21-year old Centenary record for career saves. She now has 385 saves for her career. Freshman goalkeeper Olivia Severson of the University of Dallas picked up her first career win on Sunday as the Crusaders prevailed 4-3 in overtime against Centenary. On Friday against Austin College, Severson matched a season-high 7 saves against 8 shots faced in a complete game.
