DIEGO HERNANDEZ OF CENTENARY COLLEGE, a sophomore defender from Carrolton, Texas, has been named the SCAC Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for games played through Sunday, September 29th.
Hernandez led a Centenary back line that posted three shutouts last week. Hernandez started in all three matches and played 250 of the 270 minutes in wins over Hendrix (7-0), Austin College (1-0), and University of Dallas (1-0). Hernandez and the Gent’s defense have recorded four shutouts in six matches this season. The Maroon and White has outscored the opposition 15-8 on the season.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
In his first collegiate start, sophomore goalkeeper Keleher Felton of Colorado College made three saves, including one with 20 seconds remaining in regulation time, to earn the victory in CC’s 2-1 victory at Johnson& Wales last Friday. Junior defender Brendan Dauth of Southwestern returned from injury last Sunday and scored a goal in a tough 2-1 loss at Trinity. Junior defender Tom Hultsch of St. Thomas scored his first goal of the season and helped anchor a defense that shut out Austin College on Sunday during the Celts’ 1-1 week. Hultsch and his defensive teammates held Austin College to five shots as the Celts outshot the Kangaroos 24-5. Sophomore defender Jacob Galan of Trinity led the Tigers to a pair of non-conference victories over SCAC opponents last weekend, defeating Texas Lutheran and Southwestern to close out the month of September. In addition to leading a defense that secured the team’s second consecutive shutout on Friday, Galan also buried a 35-yard shot into the back of the net for the eventual game-winner against Texas Lutheran.
