CEDRIC HARRIS OF CENTENARY COLLEGE, a senior guard from Shreveport, La., has been named the SCAC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for games played from Monday, January 6 through Sunday, January 12.
Harris scored 57 points and grabbed 27 rebounds as the Gents split a pair of games over the weekend. He now has five double-doubles this season and his 32 points on Sunday were two shy of his career-high (34). Harris scored 25 points and grabbed 17 rebounds in the Gents win over Southwestern. He made 10 of 27 shots from the field on Sunday against Texas Lutheran and made six of 15 from three-point range while adding 10 rebounds.
Harris has now reached double figures in points in all 15 of Centenary’s games this season.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore Aaron Acosta of Colorado College had 24 points and a career-high eight rebound to lead CC to a 70-55 victory over JWU. The victory marked the third time in the last four games the sophomore guard scored 20 or more points. Sophomore Ben Hanley of Trinity led the Tiger men’s basketball team with 12.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game over the weekend. Senior Brandon Alexander of Southwestern had 30 points, 13 rebounds, and 4 assists over the Pirates two games this weekend. He had one steal and one block in the Pirates game against Centenary on Friday. Junior Caleb Lister of Texas Lutheran led TLU to a 2-0 week and to the team’s fourth and fifth consecutive victories in conference play. Lister scored 20 points and had 12 rebounds in the Bulldogs’ 77-74 road victory over St. Thomas. For the week, Lister shot 47.6 percent from the field. Sophomore Cameran Hyde of Dallas averaged 16 points and shot 50 percent in a pair of SCAC victories over the weekend. Hyde led the Crusaders with a career-best 23 points in Friday’s overtime victory against Trinity University. He recorded personal-highs of eight rebounds and three blocks. Sophomore Freddie Ricks III of St. Thomas set a career-high for points in a game Friday when he scored 28 against Texas Lutheran. He averaged 24.0 points per game while shooting 54 percent (27 of 50) from the floor. Junior Michael Holland of Austin College averaged 19.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 1.5 steals-per-game while shooting 56.5% from the field to lead the ‘Roos to a 2-0 finish in conference play this weekend.
