Cooxooeii Black, Colorado College, Player of the Week (Week 11)

COOXOOEII BLACK OF COLORADO COLLEGE, a senior forward from Arapahoe, Wyo., has been named the SCAC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for games played from Monday, January 20 through Sunday, January 26. 

Black averaged 26.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game while leading Colorado College to a 1-1 record at home last week. In the 72-67 victory over Centenary on Friday night Black recorded 25 points and seven rebounds. Tying his season high of five assists, while adding one steal and one block. In Saturday’s 92-79 loss to St. Thomas, Black poured in a game-high 28 points, his 11th game of the season with 20 or more points. He also led the Tigers with eight rebounds. 

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore Ben Hanley of Trinity led Trinity’s men’s basketball team to a 1-1 SCAC split over the weekend. Hanley scored 18 points in both home games for the Tigers. He also pulled down 5.5 rebounds per game and 3.5 assists per game. Senior Brandon Alexander of Southwestern led the Pirates to a 1-1 split averaging 15 points and 6.5 rebounds. In Saturday’s victory over Trinity Alexander scored 14 points in the second half and hit two free throws in the closing seconds to seal the win. Junior Caleb Lister of Texas Lutheran averaged 18 points and 12.5 rebounds in the Bulldogs’ 1-1 conference record on the road last week. In the road victory against Schreiner, Lister posted 20 points, 13 rebounds and three assists. In the loss to Trinity, Lister scored 16 and collected 12 rebounds. Senior Cedric Harris of Centenary scored 29 points in 33 minutes in Saturday’s victory over JWU after scoring 13 on Friday at Colorado College. He added six rebounds, three steals, one assist and one block in Saturday’s victory. Harris has scored in double figures in all 18 Centenary games this season. Sophomore Freddie Ricks III of St. Thomas averaged a team-high 17.5 points per game and shot 42 percent from the field during the Celts’ two wins in Colorado this weekend. In the team’s 92-79 win at Colorado College, Ricks scored 24 points, which included making three out of seven 3-point attempts; he was also 9-of-10 from the free throw line. Sophomore Jai Love of Dallas led the Crusaders in scoring twice this week against Austin College. Love had a career-best 23 points in Sherman on Saturday. Love totaled 10 rebounds, 11 assists, and three steals over the two contests. Freshman Kaleb Atherley of JWU set the SCAC single-game rebounding record Saturday against Centenary when he totaled 27 boards, breaking Edrick Montgomery’s 14-year record. Atherley had a combined 32 points and 33 rebounds over the Wildcats two games this weekend. Junior Michael Holland of Austin College averaging 18.5 points, 12.0 rebounds, 5.5 assists, and 4.0 blocks per game. Holland recorded double-doubles in both games, first with 20 and 10 on the road and then putting together a 17 point, 14 rebound performance at home.
