
BRIAN SCHAUB OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a junior utility player from Hatfield, Pa., has been named the SCAC Baseball Hitter of the Week for games played from Monday, April 25 through Sunday, May 1. SCAC Baseball Release - Week 12
Schaub led No. 14 Trinity to a three-game SCAC weekend series sweep at Austin College, clinching the SCAC Regular Season Championship. Schaub batted .500 (4-for-8) with five runs scored and nine RBI in the three victories, drawing five walks to post an on-base percentage of .667, and hitting three home runs among his four hits for a slugging percentage of 1.625. He began the weekend by drawing four walks to tie the Trinity record for a single game, then went 4-for-7 with three home runs, five runs scored, and nine RBI in Saturday's DH. Schaub capped the regular season with a 2-for-3 performance that included two dingers, five RBI, and three runs scored to lead the Tigers to victory. This season, Schaub is hitting .328 (38-for-116) with a team-high 11 home runs and a Tiger-best 43 RBI. He is on the verge of becoming the first Trinity player in school history to post more than one season with 40 or more walks, needing just one more to accomplish the feat. Schaub's on-base percentage is a team-leading .518 this season, while his slugging percentage of .664 ranks second among his teammates.
Other Outstanding Performances in the SCAC:
First-year catcher James Vaquero of Southwestern closed out his rookie season in style, batting .533 at the plate in four games for the Pirates. He went 8-for-15 with three doubles, two RBI, five stolen bases and six runs scored while posting a .733 slugging percentage. Junior infielder Leo Galvan of St. Thomas delivered when the Celts needed it the most. Needing to win the final two games of the regular season to earn a trip to the SCAC Tournament, Galvan batted .375 on the weekend, going 3-for-8 with two RBI, five runs scored and a double to lead St. Thomas offensively. Sophomore first baseman Tyler Post of Texas Lutheran maintained a .538 average last week to help the Bulldogs post a 2-2 record, including an SCAC series victory over Schreiner to close out the regular season. Post finished the week with seven hits, five RBI three runs scored, two doubles, a triple and a home run and posted a 1.077 slugging percentage.
