NICK JEWETT OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a senior first baseman from Phoenix, Ariz., has been named the SCAC Baseball Offensive Player of the Week for games played Monday, April 18th through Sunday, April 24th.
Jewett led sixth-ranked Trinity to a three-game SCAC sweep at Austin College last weekend, securing a share of the regular season conference title. Jewett was on fire over the weekend, cracking seven hits to go wtih six runs and five RBI. He hit 7-11 (.636) in the three wins for the Tigers, as well as drawing a pair of walks. In Friday's doubleheader, Jewett was 6-8 with six runs and four RBI. He scored three runs in each end of the DH, finishing the day with his best day of the week. Jewett was 4-4 with a double, scoring three runs and tallying four RBI.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Freshman infielder Tomas Garcia of Schreiner was 6 for 13 (.462), had a HR, 3 RBIs and 7 runs scored. Senior outfielder Will Cates of Southwestern hit .500, slugged .833 and reached base at a .571 clip to propel Southwestern to a series victory over No. 24 Texas Lutheran. Senior infielder Alejandro Gutierrez of Texas Lutheran homered, drove in five and hit .385 for the weekend. Freshman third baseman Mark Peterson of Dallas picked up two hits, and both were decisive in helping the University of Dallas knock off #18 Centenary College.
