Softball Drops Home Series to TAMUSA

Softball Drops Home Series to TAMUSA

The UST Softball team dropped a home series to the Jaguars of Texas A&M San Antonio Wednesday afternoon. Although the doubleheader went to the wire, TAMUSA was able to edge the Celts.

Game 1: UST 5, Texas A&M San Antonio 6

The Celts started off their first home series red hot putting up four runs in the first three innings. Mia Terry kicked things off for UST with an inside the park home run in the bottom of the first. This was the first home run recorded in program history. The next two innings the Jaguars had no answer for the Celts' bats as UST plated three more runs thanks to RBIs from Emma Garrett, Taylor Le, and Mallarie Munson. Lindsey Longuet held TAMUSA hitless through five innings until the Jags' offense came alive. They would post three runs in the top of the sixth and one in the seventh to extend the game to extra-innings. Despite the Celts fast start, they weren't able to stop TAMUSA's late game momentum and eventually would drop this thriller in extras, 6-5. Shae Montemayor would lead the Celts going 3-4 and scoring two runs.

Game 2: UST 3, Texas A&M San Antonio 5

Game two saw both teams' offenses clicking early and often. The Celts and the Jaguars would plate all their runs in the first three innings of the contest. UST kept up with the scoring output in the first inning as a Grace Coffelt RBI double knotted the score up at one a piece. However, at the top of the third, costly errors allowed TAMUSA to extend the innning and their lead. As the Celts chased the Jaguars uphill for the next four innings, they were never able to capitalize on runners in scoring positon. Mia Terry would lead the way for the Celts going 3-4 and scoring two runs.

Softball will be back at it Saturday at 1:00 when they take on Concordia University.
