LENNARD ROBINSON OF UNIVERSITY OF ST. THOMAS, a senior guard on the men's basketball team from Houston, Texas, has been selected as the SCAC Character & Community Male Student-Athlete of the Week for the week beginning January 6.

The SCAC Character & Community award honors the efforts of student-athletes who excel in the field of athletics, and also serve their campus and community.

Assists are major part of Lennard Robinson’s game on and off the court.

The senior guard from Houston, Texas, averages 2.6 assists per game, which ranks fourth on the UST team in 2019-20. But assisting others off the court is where Robinson finds greater joy.

As a member of Lighthouse Central Church in Houston, Robinson participates in a number of the church’s outreach programs. From toy and food drives to assisting at homeless shelters, he is using his blessings to serve others.

“I’m always willing to help whenever I can because it’s always great to give back,” Robinson said. “I give back because I’m blessed and fortunate every day that God put me in the situation I’m in.”

His participation in his church’s outreach programs has affected his mindset, on the court and in the classroom as a student-athlete.

“This ministry has taught me to always be humble no matter what,” Robinson said. “My life could be up here, but there are other people whose lives can be down. I stay blessed and humble because anything can happen any day.”

Most interactions with the people he and his church are trying to help have been positive, according to Robinson.

“Some people have an attitude, but most people are grateful,” he said. “God put them on my heart, because I have a big heart and I care about other people. The little things you do can have a big impact on anybody.”
