SEGUIN, Texas - Two goals in the opening
of the match of the SCAC Championship were all University of Dallas
needed to upset Austin College in a 2-1 victory.

Austin College had the first goal of the match against University
of Dallas, but it was not enough as the Crusaders powered back in
the second half with two goals.
Junior midfielder Sydney Redding of Austin College took a corner
kick, placing the ball at the feet of senior midfielder Maddy
Millender. Millender knocked the ball to sophomore midfielder
Hannah Poenisch, who placed in the back of the net for the
‘Roos only goal of the match.
Later in the second half, University of Dallas sophomore forward
Rebecca Brunter answered Austin College’s goal with one of
her own assisted by junior forward Nicole Johnson. Johnson passed
the ball through the ‘Roos defense allowing a one-on-one
matchup between Brunter and Austin College’s sophomore
goalkeeper Franchesca Lozoya. The goal tied game 1-1 in the second
half.
With 12 minutes left to play, junior midfielder Michelle Carpenter
crossed the ball to the far post, while Johnson headed the ball in
for the Crusaders game-winning goal of the quarterfinal match.
Even though Austin College led the shot count with 23-16, the
University of Dallas came away with the victory. Senior goalkeeper
Brigid Hasson of Dallas snagged 15 saves through 90 minutes of
action.
University of Dallas improves to 7-13 on the year and advances to
face No. 1 seed Trinity University on Saturday at 1 p.m. Austin
College closes their season with a 6-13-1 overall record.
