Trinity (17-2-1) started off by controlling possession and sent a ball into the box that went off the hand of a Bulldog defender to set a penalty kick. Junior Victor Araujo lined it up and fired the team's first goal by the diving Jonathan Michael for the early lead.
Texas Lutheran (11-8-0) did not go down lightly, getting possessions into Trinity territory; however, the Tiger defense was able to stop any sort of momentum heading towards goal as they started to control possession in the first half.
Trinity got looks, but Michael did a terrific job holding the powerful offense in check. However, in the 34th minute, freshman Zac Treu sent a beautiful ball into the box that junior Jonny Lawson finished off, finding the back of the net for a 2-0 lead.
The Bulldogs again took that goal and tried to show some signs of life on offense and looked to take some momentum into halftime.
However, the Tigers gardnered all that momentum as freshman Todd Edwards headed in a free kick that deflected off the hands of Michael as time expired.
The Bulldog defense stepped up in the second half, slowing down the Trinity offense, keeping them off the board and holding them to only six shots. The Tiger defense was just as good though as they shutdown any sort of offensive production to keep a shutout intact, limiting Texas Lutheran to only three shots on the afternoon.
The Tigers have now won 15 straight games and have not allowed a goal since October 15th against future Divisin I member Incarnate Word.
Trinity will play for and attempt to win their 16th SCAC Title in school history as they will take on the winner of Colorado College and Southwestern University. Game time is scheduled for tomorrow at 1 p.m. in Georgetown.
