Emily Ellis, Trinity University, Co-Offensive Player of the Week (Week 7)

EMILY ELLIS OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a sophomore middle blocker from Georgetown, Texas, have been named the SCAC Volleyball Co-Offensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, October 7 through Sunday, October 13.

Ellis led the Tigers volleyball team to a 4-0 record last week, highlighted by a 3-1 win over #11 Ohio Northern on Friday night. She led Trinity with 42 total kills in the four matches, averaging 3.00 kills per set. Ellis also committed just five errors in 71 attacks, posting a weekend hitting percentage of .521. Against #11 Ohio Northern, Ellis had 10 kills, four blocks, and a .471 hitting percentage. Additionally, she led Trinity with 17 total blocks for an average of 1.21 blocks per set. Ellis was recognized as the Trinity Fall Classic MVP for her efforts this weekend.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior setter Lizzy Counts of Colorado College was voted MVP of the Colorado College Invitational after leading the Tigers to victories over Illinois College, Randolph-Macon College and DePauw University. The team posted a combined .361 hitting percentage throughout the three matches, including a .384 mark in the sweep of DePauw. That was the seventh time this season CC hit .350 or better in a match. Counts dished out 36 assists against Illinois College and climbed into second place on the program’s all-time list. Counts recorded six kills against Randolph-Macon, her most in a three-set match this season. Freshman Alaina Lanik of St. Thomas knocked down 22 kills and hit .169 to lead the Celts to a 1-2 weekend. Lanik put away 10 kills against one error for a .360 hitting percentages in the Celts victory over Louisiana College. She had a total 27 digs for the weekend, including 12 digs in three-set match against Huston-Tillotson. Senior Bryten Mitchan of Texas Lutheran led TLU to a 3-0 week recording 33 total kills averaging 3.30 kills per set. The senior outside hitter hit .237 and added eight digs and 11 total blocks for the week. In the four-set win over Southwestern, which snapped a 24-match losing skid to the Pirates, Mitchan tallied nine kills, eight blocks and two digs. In the three-set win over LeTourneau, she posted 16 kills and hit .455. Sophomore Isabel Garcia of Dallas led Dallas to a 2-2 record this week at the Baden Invitational. Garcia tied a season and personal-best 15 kills in the team’s 3-2 win over Monmouth College. Garcia also picked up 13 kills for second on the team in the win over Lakeland University. In all, Garcia finished with 45.5 total points, leading the team in total points over the four matches.
