ALI GRONA OF SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY, a sophomore libero from Fredericksburg, Texas, has been named SCAC Volleyball Defensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played through Sunday, September 22.
Grona led the Pirates to a successful 4-1 record last week, including a 3-1 mark at the SCAC Crossover hosted by Centenary after SU limited its opponents to just a .119 hitting percentage. Grona also the Southwestern with 79 digs to average an impressive 4.65 digs per set.
Other impressive performances in the SCAC:
Junior outside hitter Annie Rose Leggett of Trinity led the Tigers with 42 total digs (3.5/set) and five service aces last week as TU posted a 3-0 record at the SCAC Cross-Divisional. Sophomore middle blocker Christine Royalty of Austin College averaged 1.22 blocks-per-set totaling 28 in the team’s five matches last week. Royalty also had 10 digs, 16 service aces, and averaged 2.43 kills-per-set. Sophomore middle hitter Georgia Mullins of Colorado College had 11 blocks in three matches and recorded a career-high nine digs in Saturday’s match against Southwestern. Junior libero Kaylyn Latin of St. Thomas recorded 48 digs (averaging 6.0 digs per set) in Colorado as the Celts split a pair of matches. Latin dug 28 opposition attacks in a five-set match against Austin College, and then recorded 19 digs later that day against Johnson & Wales.
