Sydney Scott, Southwestern University, Player of the Week (Week 1)

SYDNEY SCOTT OF SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY, a junior utility player from Sugar Land, Texas, has been named the SCAC Softball Player of the Week for games played through Sunday, February 3rd.

Scott opened the Pirates' season with a leadoff double in the bottom of the first, scoring the first Southwestern run. She showed power to left field with two doubles and patience at the plate, drawing a walk with bases loaded to secure the Pirates' first victory.

Through the team's first two games, Scott was 5-for-8 with two RBI. She displayed speed on the base paths with two stolen bases and three runs scored, and also in the field, covering great ground in left field with seven put outs; second on the team behind first baseman Katie Bricarell. 

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
First-year first baseman Kennedy Moody of Schreiner recorded five hits in eight at bats (.625) with a double and a triple and four runs batted in as the Mountaineers split four games over the opening weekend. Sophomore left fielder Kelly Jurden of Texas Lutheran hit .571 in a two-game sweep of Huston-Tillotson. Jurden went 4-for-7 with a double, two RBI, two stolen bases, and three runs scored. She had two hits in each of the victories. Senior outfielder Marisa Trevino of Trinity went 3-for-7 (.429) with two doubles and two RBI in the Tigers' season-opening doubleheader against Pacific Lutheran on Saturday afternoon.
