LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - It was a busy week in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference softball with six of seven league squads locked up in SCAC action over the weekend in the first full week of league play.

Trinity (7-5) jumped out to a 4-0 start in conference play for the first time since the 2016 season following a four-game sweep of Austin College (0-15, 0-4) in the league openers for both programs. In the circle, sophomore Allie Holbrook set the tone each day by pitching the Tigers to victory in game one of both doubleheaders. She started the series with a complete-game effort during which she allowed just one run (unearned) on six hits and struck out three batters. On Saturday, she started the final day by striking out four batters in four innings to earn the win. Holbrook finished the weekend with 10.0 innings pitched, striking out seven batters and allowing just 10 total hits. At the plate, sophomore Brianna Pena led the way for the Tigers, batting .615 (8-for-13) with five doubles, four runs scored, and four RBI in the four contests.

Texas Lutheran (10-4, 7-1) swept Dallas (3-9, 0-4) at home in a four-game set in the conference opener for the Crusaders. TLU has now won seven of its last eight since the calendar turned to March after losing three of four to close out February. Freshman Casey Martin batted .462 (6-for-13) and reached base at a .500 clip in the series to lead the Bulldogs at the plate. Martin scored a run in every game (scored two runs in the first and fourth contests) and had two hits in three of the four games. She also had a steal in three of the four contests and finished with one RBI over the weekend. Junior right-hander Kayla Oliveira was dominant in a pair of starts for the Bulldogs. She took a no-hitter into the fifth of game two on Friday night, allowing just one hit in 5.1 innings of work and struck out six. Oliveira returned in game one on Saturday tossing a complete game two-hit shutout. She struck out five and walked just one batter to earn her second win of the weekend.

In the final conference series of the weekend, Southwestern (11-3, 5-3) swept Schreiner (4-12, 0-4) at home in the Mountaineers opening conference series of the year. The Pirates found themselves down in every game of the series but battled back to win all four, including scoring three runs in the bottom half of the seventh inning to win in walk-off fashion in game four on Saturday.  As a team, Southwestern pounded out 45 hits in the series, including 12 extra base hits and matching a season-high 13 hits in game four. In the circle, junior Lindsey Longuet earn both wins in the opening twin bill on Friday, combining to throw 11 innings in the two games, allowing zero earned runs and striking out 10.

In non-conference action, Centenary (3-8, 0-0) split doubleheaders against Oneonta last Monday and Hendrix on Sunday. In the win over Oneonta, senior Wendy Gillet reached base safely all four appearances with a hit and three walks, scored and a run and added and RBI, while freshman Hannah Scoggin earned her second win of the season with a four strikeout, complete game effort. In Sunday's triumph against the Warriors, the Ladies pounded out a season-high 15 hits, including four from Gillet to secure a 9-8, nine inning victory. Fifteen hits are the single highest since Centenary recorded 17 against LeTourneau in a win in April of 2018.

SCAC Softball continues this week, highlighted by Centenary opening the conference portion of its schedule when they host Austin College for a four-game set on Saturday and Sunday.
