LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. –- Colorado College's Ted Castaneda has been selected Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Coach-of-the-Year for both men's and women's cross country in exclusive voting by the head coaches in the conference.

Running just a few miles from campus, the CC Tigers swept both the men's and women's team titles on Saturday, November 2 at Widick Field in the shadows of Pikes Peak. It was the first men's title for Colorado College since 2016 and seventh overall. The championship on the women's side was also the first since 2016 and the fourth overall for the Tiger program.

In the largest margin of victory since 2015 and the 11th largest overall in the 29-year history of SCAC cross country, the Colorado College men defeated Trinity by 30 points (21-51). The CC Tigers were led by senior Tony Calderon, who earned SCAC Runner of the Year honors with a 25:27.9 finish – the 13th fastest 8K championship time in league history. Calderon’s title represents the 10th time a Colorado College man earned SCAC Runner-of-the-Year honors and the third time in the last four years. Calderon become just the 22nd men's cross country student-athlete to earn All-SCAC honors four consecutive years.

Led by a second-place finish by sophomore Emily Dwyer, the Colorado College women totaled 30 points to defeat runner-up and two-time defending champion Trinity by 13 points. Dwyer navigated the Widick Field course in a time of 23:28.3 to earn SCAC Newcomer of the Year honors. Junior teammate Alexia Preston was fifth in a time of 23:47.1, followed by sixth, eighth and ninth place finishes, respectively, from first-year Na'Ama Nevo (24:04.9), first-year Clare Quinn (24:11.0) and senior Claire Tobin (24:24.3).

Next up for the CC men and women is a trip to Claremont, Calif., for the NCAA Division III West Region Championships on November 16. Qualifying Regional entrants will advance to the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships, to be held November 23 in Louisville, Ky.

Castaneda has served as head coach of the men's cross country team at CC since 1981, when he also started as a volunteer assistant with the track and field program. He took over as head coach for women's cross country in 1993. This is Castaneda's seventh time to be honored as SCAC Men's Cross Country Coach-of-the-Year (2007, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2014 and 2016). It is his fourth honor on the women's side (2014, 2015, 2016).
