WIL ESCOBAR OF CENTENARY COLLEGE, a sophomore midfielder from Cypress, Texas, has been named the SCAC Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for games played through Sunday, October 6th.
Escobar scored all four goals for the Gents in a pair of victories last weekend at home to open the SCAC schedule. Centenary defeated Johnson and Wales, 2-1, on Friday and Colorado College on Sunday by a score of 2-0. Escobar scored just 31 seconds into Sunday’s match in helping lead the Maroon and White win their fifth-straight game.
Escobar leads the conference-leading Gents with six goals this season, three of which are game winners, and ranks in the top three in the SCAC in points, goals, game-winning goals, and goals per game. Centenary has outscored the opposition 13-1 during its fifth-game winning streak and is 6-2 overall and 2-0 in SCAC play. Four of its wins during the winning streak have been shutouts.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior midfielder Hayden Cogswell of Colorado College struck for the game-winner in the 3-0 win over St. Thomas last Friday. Senior forward Chima Ogueri of Dallas scored the game-tying goal to help secure a result against Southwestern last Friday as the Crusaders opened league action. Sophomore forward Luis Green of Texas Lutheran scored the game-winner for the Bulldogs against Austin College last Friday and then added an assist on an insurance goal in a win over Dallas on Sunday. Sophomore forward Phillip Duenez of Trinity exploded for his best career game, scoring three goals in a span of just over nine minutes early in the first half, beginning with his first career game-winner in the third minute of play to lift the Tigers over Schreiner last Friday.
