LALO LOPEZ-RIVERA OF TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a senior defender from Round Rock, Texas, has been named the SCAC Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for games played through Sunday, October 27th.
Lopez-Rivera led a TLU defensive effort that shutout Southwestern last Friday to secure three important home points for the Bulldogs. Lopez-Rivera, TLU’s starting center-back, and the Bulldog defense kept Southwestern off the scoreboard and held the Pirates to 11 total shots and to five shots on goal.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior goalkeeper Juan Rodriguez of Austin College collected eight saves in a 1-0 overtime victory against Centenary last Sunday. Junior midfielder John Schuler of Colorado College led the Tigers to their sixth shutout of the year against Schreiner and played the full 90 minutes and limited Trinity to just five shots in a 2-1 win. He also chipped in offensively by scoring a goal against Trinity. Senior defender Carlos Marquez of St. Thomas scored a goal and helped anchor a defensive effort that led the Celts to their sixth shutout of the season, defeating Dallas, 3-0, last Sunday.
