JUAN RODRIGUEZ OF AUSTIN COLLEGE, a senior goalkeeper from El Paso, Texas, has been named the SCAC Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for games played through Sunday, September 8th.
Rodriguez had a big weekend in goal, surrendering just one score in 200 minutes of action while making 10 saves. Rodriguez had a clean sheet with six saves in a 2-0 win at East Texas Baptist, and followed that up by making four saves in a double-overtime 1-1 draw at LeTourneau.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior goalkeepers Keller Mochel of Colorado College to the all-tournament team at the Fred Myers-adidas Invitational at the Jay Martin Soccer Complex, co-hosted by No. 10 Kenyon College and Ohio Wesleyan University. In Friday’s 2-1 loss to Kenyon, Mochel tied his season high of five saves. Senior defender Oscar Aragon of St. Thomas anchored a defense that allowed only two goals in regulation during the team’s two matches last week against NAIA opponents. Senior defender Lalo Lopez-Rivera of Texas Lutheran led the TLU back line in consecutive shutouts against Howard Payne and McMurry. He was a strong defensive presence as the Bulldogs recorded back-to-back clean sheets with 4-0 and 3-0 road wins.
