JUAN RODRIGUEZ OF AUSTIN COLLEGE, a senior goalkeeper from El Paso, Texas, has been named the SCAC Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for games played through Sunday, November 3rd.
Rodriguez helped Austin College to a 2-0 weekend, clinching a spot in the SCAC Tournament in the process, by making 16 saves combined against Schreiner and Trinity. Against the Tigers, Rodriguez made 12 stops to earn a road shutout and surrendered just one goal all weekend in 180 minutes of action. The win over Trinity marked the first time since 1992 the ‘Roos got a win over the Tigers.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior defender John Schuler of Colorado College anchored a Tiger defense that posted its seventh shutout of the season in a 6-0 win over Johnson & Wales to clinch the SCAC Regular Season Crown. Schuler also chipped in offensively with his first multi-assist game of his career with two. Freshman goalkeeper Jack Viles of Southwestern recorded 15 saves last week, including six in the Pirates 3-1 win over Centenary to close out the regular season. Freshman goalkeeper Caleb Weed of Texas Lutheran made 14 total saves over two Bulldog road wins last week to secure a bye and the second seed in the SCAC Tournament. Weed made six saves in the win over Centenary on Friday before posting eight in a victory against St. Thomas on Sunday. Sophomore defender Armaan Islam of Trinity contributed on the offensive end scoring a goal in a 5-1 victory over Dallas last Friday.
