Andrew Romero III, Johnson & Wales (Denver), Player of the Week (Week Three)

ANDREW ROMERO III OF JOHNSON & WALES (DENVER), a senior guard from Northglenn, Colo., has been named the SCAC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for games played from Monday, November 19 through Sunday, November 25.

Romero III averaged 29.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 3.5 steals per game in wins over George Fox and UT Tyler to help lead the Wildcats to their first 4-0 start in program history. Romero went off for 40 points in JWU’s 94-87 comeback win over Texas-Tyler, his second-career game with at least 40 points. Romero was clutch at the free throw line, going 14-of-16 as the Wildcats erased a 10-point second-half deficit. Romero has now scored in double figures in 37 consecutive games going back to his sophomore season.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Freshman guard Aaron Acosta of Colorado College was named to the all-tournament team at the Rocky Mountain Thanksgiving Classic after averaging 20.5 points and 5.0 rebounds per game while leading the Tigers to a 1-1 record. He scored 15 points and grabbed a season-high seven rebounds in the 77-70 victory over the University of Texas at Tyler on Friday, and then poured in a season-best 26 points in the 78-73 loss to George Fox on Saturday. Sophomore forward John Russell of Dallas scored a career-high 22 points, which included a perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds in an 86-83 victory over Mississippi University for Women. Sophomore forward Matthew Rindahl of Schreiner averaged 26.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists last week to lead the Mountaineers to a 1-1 record. Rindahl was outstanding from long distance connecting on 8-of-11 from three-point range. Junior forward Brandon Alexander of Southwestern led the Pirates to a 1-1 record last week, averaging 19.5 points on 14-of-31 shooting, 8.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game. In the win over Concordia, Alexander poured in 24 points, grabbed nine rebounds and dished out three assists. Senior guard Nathan Josephs of Texas Lutheran scored a season-high 19 points to lead the Bulldogs to a 79-56 road win over McMurry, Saturday in Abilene. Josephs hit seven of his nine shot attempts and went 4-for-6 from the three-point line. Josephs also scored 17 points in a road loss to Hardin-Simmons. Senior forward Danny Rivara of Trinity made his season debut last weekend, averaging 13.5 points and 6.0 rebounds per game in a pair of Tiger losses at the Leslie Robinson Invitational.
