JONTRELL HERMAN OF JOHNSON & WALES (DENVER), a senior guard from Duck Hill, Miss., has been named the SCAC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for games played from Monday, November 12 through Sunday, November 18.

Herman led the JWU to a pair of non-conference victories last week to get the Wildcats off to their first 2-0 start since the 2004-2005 season. The Mississippi native averaged 32.5 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists to lead Johnson & Wales to wins over Wisconsin-River Falls and Iowa Wesleyan on Friday and Saturday at the Tiger Tip-Off Tournament at Colorado College. A product of Castle View High School in Castle Rock, Colo., Herman knocked down 7-of-12 attempts from the 3-point line (58.3 percent) in the two games while shooting 55.0 percent from the floor. 
 
Herman opened the season by matching a career high with 34 points in an 85-81 win over UWRF on Friday, following that up with a 31-point effort the next day in a 95-73 win over Iowa Wesleyan.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore guard Kam Hogan of Austin College stuffed the stat sheet, averaging 19.0 points, 2.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 1.5 steals, and 1.5 blocks-per-game while shooting 50.0 percent (15-30) from the field to lead the Roos to a 1-1 mark last week. In the win over Hendrix, Hogan poured in 27 points and grabbed three rebounds. Junior forward CooXooEii Black of Colorado College earned a spot on the all-tournament team at the Tiger Tip-Off Tournament, averaging 13 points and 8.5 rebounds while leading the Tigers to a 1-1 record. The Wyoming native scored 13 points and 11 rebounds in the 81-68 season-opening victory over Iowa Wesleyan for his 11th career double-double. Junior guard Ryan Wheeler led Southwestern to a 2-1 record to open the season, the third time since 2010-11 the Pirates have won two of their opening three contests. Wheeler averaged 13.3 points on 12-for-27 shooting (44.4%) and collected 2.7 rebounds per contest. In the 30-point win over Howard Payne, Wheeler scored a season-high 19 points and reached double-figures in points for all three contests last week. Sophomore shooting guard Sebastian Andrade of Texas Lutheran led the Bulldogs in both contests this weekend at the ASC/SCAC Classic in Marshall, Texas. Andrade nailed a jump-shot in the paint with three seconds remaining in the game to lift TLU to an 80-79 non-conference win Saturday over LeTourneau. Andrade finished the game with 27 points to lead the squad. He hit four of his eight three-point attempts and went 11-for-19 (57.9 percent) overall from the field. He also added four rebounds. Andrade averaged 19.5 points per game following this weekend’s action, shooting an overall 55.2 percent from the field. From the arc, Andrade shot 42.9 percent (3-for-7). Senior forward Isaiah Specks led Trinity with 12.3 points/game to open the season, beginning with an 18-point performance to lead the Tigers in the season opener.
