LUKE PACKARD OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a senior defensive lineman from Dallas, Texas, has been named the SCAC Football Defensive Player of the Week for games played Saturday, October 22nd. This is the second time this season Packard has received the award for Defensive Player of the Week.
Packard led the Tigers to a 38-17 road win over Austin College on Saturday, ending the first round of conference play on a high note.
Packard recorded five solo tackles in the game, four of which were for loss. He also tied his career-best with 3.0 sacks in the game, which is also tied for the most in a game since 2004. His 10.0 sacks this season are also a career-high for one year, and are also the most for a Tiger defender since 2004.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior linebacker Darian Candler of Texas Lutheran Univeristy took an interception 42 yards for a touchdown and compiled 10 total tackles in a road loss Saturday at Southwestern University. Candler hit the double-digit tackle mark for the 7th consecutive game with 7 solo tackles and 3 tackle assists. Sophomore safety Aaron Robinson of Southwestern University posted 9 tackles, including 3.5 for loss, and 2 sacks in a 42-38 win over Texas Lutheran on Saturday night. Robinson, who also broke up a pass, totaled 14 yards on his tackles behind the line of scrimmage, including 9 on sacks.
