Luke Packard, Trinity University, Defensive Player of the Week (Week 2)

LUKE PACKARD OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a senior defensive lineman from Dallas, Texas, has been named the SCAC Football Defensive Player of the Week for games played Saturday, September 10th.

Packard led a solid defensive effort on Saturday afternoon, but the Tigers came up short 24-20 on the road against Millsaps College.

Packard finished with a team-leading 12 tackles in the game, as well as pacing all Tiger players with 2.5 sacks and 5.5 tackles for loss. The defense allowed just 54 total yards in the first and third quarters, which included four drives that gained negative yardage.

For the season, Packard is leading Trinity with 25 total tackles, and is tied for the team lead with 12 solo stops. He also racked up 7.5 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks in the first two games of the season.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior linebacker Charles Eneh of Austin College had a big game against Howard Payne, making 12 tackles, including 5 solo stops, to help the 'Roos to a 19-17 victory. Senior defensive end Brandon Fleischmann of Southwestern University posted 6 tackles, including 3.5 for loss, and 2.5 sacks in the win against McMurry. Sophomore defensive back Justin Thomas of Texas Lutheran University recorded 8 total tackles, including 7 solo stops against Mary-Hardin Baylor.
