James Nittoli, Trinity University, Pitcher of the Week (Week 3)

JAMES NITTOLI OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a senior left-handed pitcher from San Antonio, Texas, has been named the SCAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week for games played from Monday, February 17 through Sunday, February 23. 

Nittoli led the third-ranked Tigers to a three-game weekend sweep with his start in game two of the series against Endicott. The senior southpaw struck out eight batters in 8.0 innings, allowing just one run on five hits. He didn't allow a run until his final inning, giving up a two-out solo homer to break up his shutout bid.

This season, Nittoli is second on the team with a 1.20 ERA, allowing just two earned runs in 15.0 innings. He has recorded 15 strikeouts against just four walks allowed and is holding opponents to a .218 batting average in his two appearances.

Other Outstanding Performances in the SCAC:
Junior right-hander Preston Ludwick of Centenary pitched six shutout innings on Saturday in a 12-0 victory over Eureka College in the Millsaps Invitational in Jackson, Miss. Ludwick allowed just four hits and struck out five while walking none. The versatile Ludwick also went 6-for-12 with three RBI, four runs scored and drew three walks at the plate during the weekend. Junior right-hander Tyler Montemayor of Dallas made two appearances out of the Crusaders' bullpen, tossing three shutout innings and picking up a pair of saves to help his team sweep Arlington Baptist this weekend. He did not allow a hit or walk in either outing. Junior right-hander Aaron Clark of Southwestern retired six of the eight hitters he faced, striking out five with no runs scored and only one hit surrendered in two innings of work against Mary Hardin-Baylor.
