JEFF LONNECKER OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a junior right-hander from Houston, Texas, has been named the SCAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week for games played from Monday, March 25 through Sunday, March 31.
Lonnecker snapped third-ranked Trinity’s four-game losing streak with his outstanding effort in game one of Sunday’s doubleheader against Centenary, sparking the Tigers to the SCAC series victory over the Gents. Lonnecker struck out five batters and allowed just one hit over 6.0 innings. That hit was the only baserunner he allowed against Centenary, and he struck out four of the final six batters he faced in the game.
Other Outstanding Performances:
In the series opener with East Texas Baptist, Southwestern sophomore Austin Smith recorded 10 strikeouts while allowing three hits and four walks in a complete-game shutout. Dallas sophomore LHP Andrew Magness pitched a complete game in the series finale against Texas Lutheran, striking out eight while allowing three earned runs in the Crusaders’ 12-inning, 4-3 victory over the Bulldogs. Senior Dylan Murrell of Texas Lutheran earned the complete game shutout victory over Dallas in the series opener, striking out four through eight innings of work.
