SCAC Baseball Recap - Week 10

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Among the highlights of Week 10 in the SCAC, Austin College took two of three games from Schreiner University to take a percentage points lead over Southwestern for the league's fourth post-season tournament berth.

Austin College earned a 5-2 decision over Schreiner on Friday before splitting with the Mountaineers on Saturday. The two squads hooked up for a pair of slugfests on Saturday, with Austin College coming from eight runs down to topple the Mountaineers 21-15 in game one before falling 18-14 in game two.

The 21 runs are the most ever scored by an Austin College squad in the SCAC era.

Centenary remained atop the standings and undefeated in SCAC play (9-0 / 18-9 overall) with a three game home sweep of Southwestern. The Gents took a 6-1 victory on Thursday behind Kaleb Kirk's 29th career victory - placing the senior in a tie for fourth all-time in SCAC history.

Centenary completed the three-game sweep with 6-5 and 8-0 victories on Saturday as senior catcher Chris Zapata provided a dramatic walk-off single in the first game of the day.

12th-ranked Texas Lutheran remained three games back of Centenary in the conference standings as the Bulldogs took three from the University of Dallas. TLU outscored the Crusaders 21-6 in the three-game series and improved to 6-3 in the SCAC with Sunday's win. They now sit at 24-7 overall.

Texas Lutheran hosts Centenary for a huge three-game series this weekend. Game one of the series is set for 7 p.m. on Friday, followed by a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday.

Top-ranked Trinity won four games over the week, including a non-conference victory at Southwestern on Wednesday, 9-5. The Tigers backed that up with a three-game sweep of Hardin-Simmons, including a pair of exciting victories on Friday. Trinity stormed back from a 3-0 deficit to take an 8-3 victory in Game One and then, after allowing the host Cowboys to tie the game with six runs in the bottom of the ninth, scored a pair of runs in the top of the 16th to take the 14-12 marathon victory.
