CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Currently in 16th place, Trinity University leads three SCAC institutions ranked in the prestigious 2016-2017 Division III Learfield Sports Directors' Cup fall standings.
Trinity has amassed 194 points in the standings on the strength of its four NCAA appearances this fall. The Tigers placed fifth in women's soccer, ninth in men's soccer and 33rd in both women's cross country and volleyball.
Colorado College has 114.50 points and is in 45th place among the schools ranked. The Tigers placed 12th in women's cross country and 17th in women's volleyball.
Southwestern University is in 66th with 83 points from its historic third place finish in volleyball.
Washington-St. Louis leads all of Division III at the completion of the fall championships season with 410 points, and has a 44.50-point lead over second-place Tufts (365.50). Johns Hopkins University is behind the Jumbos with 337.50 points, followed by Calvin College (314.0) and Middlebury College (268.50).
The Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 18 sports -- nine women’s and nine men's.
To date, all seven fall NCAA championships have been completed with the following institutions capturing titles: women’s cross country – Johns Hopkins; men’s cross country – North Central (IL); field hockey – Messiah; women's volleyball – Calvin College; women’s soccer – Washington-St. Louis; men’s soccer – Tufts; football – Mary Hardin-Baylor.
