Black Hits Milestone, but UD Tops Tigers

CooXooEii Black scored 20 points and became the seventh member of the Colorado College men's basketball program's 1,500-point club, but the Tigers dropped a 67-64 result at the University of Dallas on Saturday afternoon.

Black reached the milestone when he scored on a jump shot 2:42 into the second half for two of his 14 points after halftime.

He also became just the 16th men's basketball player in the history of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference to reach the milestone. Black finished the game ranked 14th with 1,512 points.

CC led 55-47 after Black connected on a jumper with 7:09 to play to cap an 11-2 run, and the Tigers maintained the lead until Dustin Mathis sank a pair of free throws with 38 seconds to go to put the Crusaders up, 62-61.

Colorado College misfired on its next three possessions, and UD sank five of six free throws before Aaron Acosta connected on a three-pointer at the final buzzer.

Black grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds to complete his ninth double-double of the season.

He finished the game with 668 career rebounds, which ranks third in program history, climbing past Rick Moore (1989-93) who finished his career with 675.

Mathis went 5-for-9 from behind the arc and led UD with 20 points.

As a team, the Crusaders scored 27 points on three-pointers while CC was made only five of 21 long-range attempts.

Dallas was 14-for-23 at the charity stripe, while the Tigers sank 11 of 13 attempts.

Aaron Acosta produced 16 points, three rebounds and a pair steals.
Charlie Rounaghi dished out a game-high seven rebounds.
 
University of Dallas Standouts
Cameron Hyde recorded 12 points and had a pair of rebounds.
Jacob Giunta scored seven points and grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds.
 
Notes
Colorado College dropped to 5-14 overall and 3-10 in the SCAC.
UD improved to 11-8 overall and 7-5 in the conference.
 
Next for the Tigers
Colorado College returns for its final three home games of the regular season, beginning on Friday, Feb. 7, when Johnson & Wales University visits Reid Arena for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off.
