Women's Soccer Scores Season-High Five Goals in Win Over Schreiner

Women's Soccer Scores Season-High Five Goals in Win Over Schreiner

GEORGETOWN, Texas — Southwestern women's soccer put together its best offensive performance of the season, scoring three goals in the first half in a 5-2 win over the Schreiner Mountaineers.

Juliet Pridgen scored the game's first goal, taking a pass near mid-field and outracing the entire Schreiner defense down the right sideline on the long run, pulling Schreiner goalkeeper Audrey River out of the box and booting it past her for the score roughly 15 minutes in.

Five minutes later, Samantha Hazen received the ball on the same sideline on a long throw-in. The freshman forward broke away from the defense, crossing the ball to Alexis Guajardo, who redirected it with one-touch off the back of her heel to Abrianna Morales for the score.

Hazen triggered another scoring play 26 minutes into the game, finding space on the right side and delivering a pass to Melanie Saldana for the 3-0 lead at the half.

After not attempting a single shot in the first half, Schreiner finally broke through the Pirate defense in the second when Kourtney Rosales found Chloe Mills for the score at the 51:32 mark.

After assisting on two goals in the first half, Hazen connected on one of her own, scoring off a pass from Mia Summers 70 minutes into the contest for her fifth score of the season. Schreiner's Myranda Palacios cut the deficit in half with an unassisted goal with 10 minutes remaining.

Southwestern responded less than a minute later when Madison Koehn found Melanie Saldana for her game's second goal. The Pirates dominated possession for most of the game, outshooting Schreiner 21-6, putting 14 on goal.  Both teams finished with a pair of corner kicks.

The Pirates improve to 9-1 this season, including 1-0 in conference play. Southwestern will host No. 8-ranked Trinity University on Sunday at noon.
