JACKSON, Miss. – Sophomore Travis Harvey pitched a complete game for the Southwestern University Pirates baseball team, throwing 12 strikeouts with only one walk in a 4-1 victory over the Millikin University Big Blue.

Millikin opened the game with back-to-back hits, scoring a run in the top of the first inning on an error with one out before Harvey struck out Kyle Kane and induced a groundout from Andrew Auton.

Daniel Montgomery Jr. had the Pirates' first hit of the game from the No. 2 spot, singling to right field. Preston Witt followed with a walk and Byron Dowdell reached on a fielder's choice, putting runners on the corners with two outs.

Lance Kruse put the Pirates on the board with an RBI-single through the left side, scoring Montgomery. Seth Sparks followed with a single through the right, scoring Dowdell to give the Pirates a 2-1 lead after the first.

Harvey dominated the rest of the way, striking out the side in the top of the second and retiring Milikin in order in the top of the fourth. The left-handed sophomore from Cedar Park also retired three of four in the top of the sixth with the only runner reaching on an error.

Southwestern added two insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth, taking advantage of some wild pitches to load the bases, scoring on a balk and a sacrifice fly from Seth Sparks, scoring Witt for the 4-1 lead.

Harvey retired the side in order again in the seventh, striking out two, and retired three of four in each of the final two innings, recording two more strikeouts.

Sparks finished 1-for-2 with two RBIs and Montgomery was 1-for-4 with two runs scored.
