Crusaders Finish Off Series Sweep over Dallas Christian College With 11-6 Victory on Saturday
IRVING, Texas - The University of Dallas baseball team finished off the series sweep against Dallas Christian College after winning 11-6 on Saturday afternoon. The Crusaders fell behind early, but used a six-run third inning to find their first lead on the day. DCC stayed on the Crusaders toes through most of the game, but UD found some insurance runs in the seventh inning to take the victory. Michael Jaquez (Irving, Texas) led UD on the day with four RBI and record-tying two triples.

Andrew Magness (San Antonio, Texas) got the nod to start the game on the mound. Magness got around a leadoff walk in the top half of the first inning to send the Crusaders to the plate. UD was unable to get an offensive attack in the opening frame. Magness rolled up a double play in the 2nd inning to keep DCC off the board. In the third inning, DCC got a leadoff single by Josh Lindly who later advanced a base because of a balk. Jacob Patlan then doubled to left field to push across the first run of the game. Cameron Hend followed that with a double to left to score Patlan. Gabe Benza then grabbed an RBI with a sacrifice fly to right field as DCC went up early 3-0.
The Crusaders loaded up the bases in the bottom half of the inning. Jordan Stickler (Grand Rapids, Mich.) walked to bring in the first run for UD. Jaquez then hit a bases-clearing triple to deep right field as three runs came into score and put the home team up the remainder of the contest. Nathan Patton (McKinney, Texas) pushed across another run with a sacrifice fly. Then with two outs, Zachary Taylor (Humble, Texas) doubled down the right field line as Jessup Scott (Lewiston, Idaho) scored to help Dallas take a 6-3 lead after three innings.
Magness was able to roll up another double play in the fourth inning, but DCC found a two-out rally. With a man on second, Lindly singled to right field as Treyveon Mur scored. Hend then singled to third base as he notched a RBI as well to help DCC get within one run. UD was able to add one run in the fourth when Patton hit his second sacrifice fly on the day to score Nicolas Hovde (Waco, Texas). Jamie Wallace (Crockett, Texas) came in to relive Magness. In the fifth inning, Wallace got out of jam with two men in scoring position to hold DCC scoreless.
After a 1-2-3 top half of the sixth, Patton singled through the left side to allow Jaquez to score. The road Crusaders added a run in the seventh, but Dallas tacked on three runs in the bottom half. Mark Peterson (Cincinnati, Ohio) led off the inning with solo shot to right center for his first homerun since the 2017 season. Stickler tripled to right field to drive in Josh Abalos (Lewisville, Texas). Jaquez later drove in Stickler to help add some insurance for UD.
Ryan Flores (San Diego, Calif.) came in to close the door in the ninth. Flores allowed no hits and no runs while notching one strikeout.
Jaquez had a career-best four RBI off of three hits. He also scored two runs in his first time hitting in the two-spot. Jaquez became the seventh player in program history to notch two triples in a single game-eighth time someone has acheived the feat. Peterson had a 3-5 day at the plate with two runs scored with a double and his eighth career homerun-just a triple shy of the cycle. Patton drove in three. Stickler went 2-4 at the plate contributing two RBI and two runs scored. Scott, Hovde, and Abalos each stole a base on the day. Wallace had a career-high six strikeouts, only allowing one run in relief off of five hits.
UD has now beaten Dallas Christian College nine-straight games since restarting head-to-head meetings in 2017.
