Box Score Colorado College's position atop the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference standing became a little more tenuous on Sunday afternoon.

In a battle of the top two teams in the league, Schreiner University banged its way past CC for a 56-54 victory on Sunday afternoon at Reid Arena.

The Mountaineers took a 55-47 lead when senior guard Jared Thompson hit a jumper from the top of the key with 1:52 remaining, then survived a frantic comeback that saw the Tigers close to within two points with five
seconds remaining.

Colorado College had a shot at another last-second victory, but Edmund Pendleton's desperation three-pointer from the left wing fell short of the rim.

Freshman forward CooXooEii Black led the Tigers with 16 points, including a bucket with 5:18 remaining in the first half that gave CC its final lead at 18-17.

Junior forward John Hatch scored 14 points for CC before fouling out with 11 seconds to play.

Junior guard Eric Houska finished with 11 points and six assists.

Senior forward Wes Miller led Schreiner with 11 points, while Thompson scored 10.

Junior guard Keenan Gumbs added nine points, seven rebounds and six assists, while junior forward Blake Kelley grabbed a game-high eight rebounds and added six points.

CC slipped to 7-11 overall and 6-1 in the SCAC.

The Mountaineers improved to 8-9 overall and 5-1 in conference play.

Colorado College travels to Texas next week for rematches at Trinity University and Schreiner on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
