The Rhodes baseball team completed the three game conference sweep of visiting Depauw University this afternoon with a 8-7 victory in 10 innings. Junior CF
Travis Perkins hit a walk-off homerun in the bottom of the 10th to secure the Lynx victory. Sophomore
James Todd picked up his first victory of the season as the Lynx improve to 10-12 on the year. Depauw jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first, but the Lynx answered back with 3 of their own in the bottom half, highlighted by a solo shot by senior Andy Meier. Depauw countered with 3 in the top of the second and the game would remain 5-3 until both teams traded single runs in the seventh. Depauw expanded their lead to 7-4 with a single run in the eighth. Rhodes put up 3 in the bottom of the ninth to tie the game and force extra innings. Perkins finished the game off with a solo shot to deep right field with 2 outs in bottom of the 10th.
Sophomore
Jackson Baker got the start for the Lynx and worked the first 5 innings. Baker allowed 5 hits, 5 runs, 4 earned, 6 walks, and struck out 4. Junior
Remick Smothers worked the 6th and did not allow a runner to reach base. Senior
Taylor Babich relieved freshman
Max Halasz in the top of the 7th. Babich worked 2 innings, allowed 3 hits, 1 earned run, and no walks. Todd entered the game in the top of the ninth and worked the final two innings, allowing 1 hit, no runs, 1 walk, and struck out 3.
The Lynx offense was led by junior
Travis Perkins who was 1-2 with a homerun, 2 runs, an RBI, and walked once. Senior OF Andy Meier was 3-4 at the plate with a homerun, 3 runs scored, an RBI, and got hit by a pitch. Sophomore DH
Matt Burnick was 2-5 on the day.
Rhodes will return to action Tuesday night against Randolph-Macon College at USA Stadium in Millington, TN. First pitch is set for 7:00.
