DANVILLE, Ky. - In another example of the depth of the Great Lakes Region in women's soccer, the Wittenberg Tigers found a tough road at Centre College with the Tigers escaping with a 1-1 draw on the road.
Senior midfielder Suzanne Medwid (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) provided early optimism for the Tigers, as they jumped out to a lead in the ninth minute. Her goal would hold up until intermission, while the Tigers struggled to manufacture additional attacking situations.
In the second stanza, the defense looked to protect their slim lead, with seniors Jamie Mack (Rochester, NY/Penfield) and Lauren Johnson (Huntsville, Ala./Hilliard Davidson), among others, managing to keep the Colonels off the board despite an overwhelming shot advantage in the second half by the home side. The Tigers faced 11 shots in the second 45 minutes, while only producing one of their own.
Centre would level the match in the 81st minute, but the Tiger defense did preserve the tie through two overtime sessions to keep the Tigers undefeated on the year.
The deadlock moves Wittenberg to 4-0-2 heading into another road trip against another strong regional foe, when the Tigers visit Ada, Ohio, and the Ohio Northern Polar Bears at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17.
