Hunter Bajoit and Hemanshu Rambojun Become First Pirates to Advance to ITA Regional Doubles Semifinals

GEORGETOWN, Texas — Hunter Bajoit and Hemanshu Rambojun are the first Southwestern University Pirates in program history to advance to the semifinals in the A draw of the ITA Men's Regional Championships after defeating the Ozarks' Ito Tost and Lankford (8-7 (4)) and Austin College's Robe and Padilla (8-6).

Teammates Dimanche and Tibbetts opened the day with a victory over Concordia's Bode and van Der Jeidjen (8-6) but were then eliminated by No. 1 seed, Trinity's Pitts and Krimbill (8-4). Bajoit and Ramojun will face the Trinity team in tomorrow's semifinals. 

Joseph and Dulthummon advanced to the quarterfinals with an 8-4 victory over St. Thomas' Haas and Ware but were bested by UT-Dallas' Steffes and Vaithinathan (8-7). 

Four members of the Southwestern University Pirates men's tennis team advanced to the second day of singles competition at the ITA Southwest Regional Championships.

Senior Alexis Dimanche, the Pirates' highest seed at No. 2, defeated Schreiner University's Matthew Jimenez in two sets (6-2, 6-2) and Mary Hardin-Baylor's Brian Martin (6-2, 6-1). 

Teammate Hunter Bajoit, last year's SCAC Newcomer of the Year and tournament fifth-seed, defeated a pair of conference rivals and will face a third SCAC opponent on Saturday. Bajoit swept Texas Lutheran University's Alex Talley in straight sets (6-0, 6-0) and Austin College's Brett O'Brien (6-3, 6-2). He will face St. Thomas' Race Haas. 

Dean Dulthummon, one of seven ninth seeds in the event, defeated University of St. Thomas' Michael Hopkins (6-3, 6-1) and UT-Dallas' Brandon Giordanelli (6-3, 6-4). He'll face McMurry's Carlos Martinez, a fifth seed, tomorrow. 

Alex Joseph, a five seed, defeated Centenary's Ronald Nobles (6-0, 6-1) and Concordia's Esteban Arredondo-Huergo (6-4, 6-4) to advance against Hardin-Simmons' Nathanial Schoendorf. 

First year Steven Tibbets upset No. 9 seed Giovanni Zamboni of UT-Dallas before falling to Trinity University's Brett Finan (6-4, 7-6). 

Max Pearson and Vesko Lekovic each split their matches for the day. Pearson defeated Mary Hardin-Baylor's Cole Weiss (6-4, 6-1) but lost to Trinity University's Hao Nguyen (6-1, 6-2). Lekovic beat Hardin-Simmons' Josh Lopez, then lost to Trinity University's Wilson Hamilton. 

Unseeded Tyler Norman was defeated by No. 3 seed Josh Bode (6-0, 6-2) in the first round. 

In B Singles, Tashawn Treadwell defeated Schreiner's Carson Kirk (6-4, 6-2) and Austin College's Travis Fortune (7-5, 6-3) to advance to the second day. Teammate Jeremy Wilson was defeated by McMurry's Zach Miller in three sets (3-6, 6-3, 10-4). 

In D Singles, Kyle Brown defeated East Texas Baptist's Matt Fuhr (6-3, 6-0) but lost to Concordia's Corbin Hayes (6-2, 6-2). 

In the B Draw, Pearson and Wilson advanced to the championship match after defeating Schreiner's Kirk and Jimenez (8-4) and Concordia's O'Connor and Pena (8-6). They will face Concordia's Davis and Garza in the championship. In the C Draw, Norman and Brown defeated LeTourneau's Cressio and Golladay (8-2).
