Women’s swimming drops dual to Austin College

ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University Women's Swimming experienced its first loss of the season, coming up short to Austin College, 122-65, inside the Phillips Family Center at McMurry.

Two War Hawks picked up victories, as senior Jessica Gryder took gold first in the women's 50-yard freestyle with a time of 27.49. The win was Gryder's third individual win in two meets this season.

Freshman Madelaine Smith also won an individual event for McMurry, turning in a time of 1:20.32 in the 100-yard breaststroke to win by over six seconds.

McMurry's primary women's 200-yard medley relay team was edged by only four seconds to begin the meet, as the team of Gryder, Smith, Abagail Swaim and Molly Herrera finished at 2:07.61.

With two duals out of the way, McMurry will now turn its attention to its final home event of 2019. Next Saturday, Oct. 25, the War Hawks will hold its annual Alumni Swim Meet which is scheduled for 5:15 p.m.

Following next Saturday's homecoming, McMurry hits the road for the first time this season at the Hendrix Relay and the Hendrix Classic on Nov. 1-2 in Conway, Arkansas.
