Senior Sierra Paces Bulldogs in 3-2 Senior Day Victory

SEGUIN, TX -- Two Senior Day goals from senior Monique Sierra (San Antonio/Taft) and a 20th minute goal from Liliana Avila (Blanco/Blanco) proved to be enough as Texas Lutheran (6-9, 3-3 SCAC) staved off a late Austin College rally to take a 3-2 victory over Austin College (1-11-1, 0-4-1 SCAC) Sunday afternoon at Gustafson Field to move into third in the SCAC standings with the conference tournament looming.

During halftime of the day's action, Texas Lutheran honored its four-member senior class: Sierra, Brittany Casarez (McKinney/McKinney North), Samantha Martinez (Schertz/Clemens), and Bella Probasco (Bastrop/Cedar Creek).

Monique Sierra came out on fire to start today's match. After having no goals on the season thus far, Sierra found the back of the net in the 4th and 18th minutes to put the Bulldogs ahead 2-0. Two minutes later, Liliana Avila scored off an assist from senior Samantha Martinez to extend the Bulldogs first half lead to 3-0.

The 'Roos responded in the second half with two goals within the first 15 minutes but couldn't find an equalizer as the Bulldogs were able to hang on for a 3-2 victory.

Today's match was the most aggressive the Bulldogs have been all season as the Bulldogs held a 25-11 shot advantage - 14-4 advantage in shots on goal. Charleigh Phipps (Dripping Springs/Dripping Springs) picked up the victory in goal for the Bulldogs - finishing the afternoon with two saves.

The Bulldogs will close out the regular season with a home finale against Southwestern Saturday, Oct. 30, at 1PM at Gustafson Field. All streaming and stat links can be found at tlubulldogs.com.
