ELMHURST, IL - The Calvin men's basketball team picked up a much-needed 75-57 victory over DePauw University Thursday night in the consolation game of the Elmhurst Bluejay Classic. The victory was also Calvin's first over the Tigers and came 20 years after the only prior meeting between the two teams - an 82-79 DePauw victory over Calvin in the 1990 NCAA III Final Four.

Thursday's victory snapped a two-game losing skid for Calvin (5-6) and gave the Knights some momentum heading into MIAA play next week. Calvin will open league play next Wednesday at rival Hope in a game slated to start at 7:30 p.m. at Hope's DeVos Fieldhouse.

Calvin's victory over DePauw featured a contest of back-and-forth momentum as the Knights roared out to a 26-10 first half lead only to see the Tigers (6-5) finish the half with a 19-6 run to trail just 32-29 at intermission. DePauw then built a 51-44 lead with 11:13 left to play before Calvin regained momentum, scoring nine unanswered points including six from sophomore Tom Snikkers to take a 53-51 lead. Over the final seven minutes, Calvin put the hammer down, outscoring DePauw 20-3 with senior Brad Schnyders keying the run with six points off the bench.

Schnyders finished the game with 11 points and was named to the all-tournament team. He was one of five Calvin players to notch double-digits in scoring as sophomore Bryan Powell, Snikkers and senior Danny Rodts had 14 points apiece with Rodts notching a double-double as he was credited with 10 rebounds. Freshman Jordan Brink had 13 points including a 3-for-4 showing from three-point range.

The Knights were 15-of-16 at the free throw line and held a 38-29 rebounding advantage. DePauw was led by Sean Hasely with 19 points with Hasely connecting on five three-point shots.
