COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The McMurry University swim teams had its final tune-up prior to the Southern Collegiate Athletic conference championships in February, competing versus predominantly NCAA Division II competition at the Colorado College Invitational. The War Hawks were seventh in the women's standings and fifth in the men, for the two-day event on Saturday and Sunday.
For the women, senior
Robyn Remschel had a second place finish in the 100 backstroke (1:01.93) and a fourth in the 200 backstroke (2:13.88). She was also 20th in the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 26.38 seconds.
Fellow senior
Katie Gorka earned a third place in the grueling 1650-yard freestyle, touching in a time of 21:10.28 minutes. Gorka was also 17th in the 500 freestyle (6:12.11) and 15th in the 200 freestyle (2:21.95).
Jessica Gryder finished ahead of teammate Gorka in the 200 freestyle, clocking in at 2:16.65 minutes.
Newcomer
Mariah Rhoades also had a nice meet for the War Hawks. Rhoades was seventh in the 400 individual medley (5:31.39). She also picked up a 15th place in the 100 freestyle (1:00.58).
On the men's half, junior
Jerick Pena had a pair of top-10 placements to his ledger. Pena was sixth in the 200 backstroke (2:06.05) and 10th in the 200 individual medley (2:05.32).
Sophomore
Dany Baki reached the "B" finals in three races. Baki was 15th in both the 500 freestyle (5:42.24) and the 100 backstroke (1:11.44), while placing 16th overall in the 200 freestyle (2:06.02).
Zakai Love finished ahead of teammate Baki in the 100 backstroke, finishing 13th in a time of 1:06.13.
Brayden Miller was 15th in the 100 breaststroke (1:11.60).
The SCAC championship meet is next up for McMurry on February 14-17 at The Colony, Texas.
