PIRATES FALL 2-0 AT MARY HARDIN-BAYLOR

BELTON, Texas - The Southwestern men's soccer team was on the offensive throughout the contest, blasting 17 shots to Mary Hardin-Baylor's eight, but were unable to capitalize on the opportunities, falling 2-0 on Friday afternoon.

As the game got underway the two teams were well matched with both taking five shots and SU receiving two corner kicks to UMHB's three.

Once again the beginning of the second half put the Pirates behind as the Cru's Trevor Shoppach headed in Scott Poole's crossing ball just three minutes into the period.

Southwestern continued the offensive barrage and turned up the heat as time began winding down. With their final push into the attacking third of the field the Pirates were caught in their aggressive play which allowed UMHB to score their second and final goal in the 87th minute.

UMHB's keeper, Miller, recorded seven saves during the entire contest while SU's junior keeper Nick Pierce had two saves in 58 minutes and first-year keeper Daniel Poole closed out the game and logged no saves in 32 minutes.

The Pirates fall to 1-1 on the year and continue their early onslaught of games with another match-up on Saturday in Belton. They will face the University of Texas Tyler at 3:00 pm.
