WAR HAWKS MOVE OVER .500 IN DUAL COMPETITION

ABILENE, TEXAS – The first of two 2022-23 home events for McMurry University men's and women's swimming was just what head coach Arthur Wang was looking for.

With the fall portion of the year continuing to progress, the War Hawks head coach was wanting to see his teams in competition with a trip to Trinity University in San Antonio for a midseason invitational Nov. 17-19. "It was nice to see both teams win, but honestly, we just needed to get a meet in," McMurry's head coach said. "It's been three weeks since we last competed."

McMurry's women edged visiting University of Ozarks 257-247, while the War Hawk men cruised past the Eagles 325-161. The triumphs for both sides moved their dual marks to 2-1.

Freshmen Maddy Rohrer (Auburn, Wash.) and Caitlyn Sauer (Anthem, Ariz.) packed up a large share of the women's squad's team points. Rohrer was a six-event winner, while Sauer was a double-victor. Rohrer hit the wall first in the 200-yard breaststroke, 100-yard freestyle, the 200-yard individual medley, 200-yard freestyle, 50-yard freestyle, and 100-yard breaststroke. Sauer was first in the 100-yard backstroke and the 200-yard backstroke.

"It was a great team effort from everyone on the women's team," Wang noted. "We needed every effort with Ozarks battling us to the very end."

McMurry's men got out to a 105-51 lead after night one and didn't look back. Freshman Harrison Brown (Pasadena, Texas) got the home side off to a flying start sweeping the 100-yard freestyle and 200-yard individual medley. It was more of the same Saturday. Sophomore Caleb Bush (San Angelo, Texas) (200-yard breaststroke/100-yard breaststroke) and freshman Montgomery Cortez (Corpus Christi, Texas) (400-yard individual medley/1000-yard freestyle) wound up multiple-event champions.

McMurry joins a loaded team roster at Trinity University Friday, Nov. 18 – Sunday, Nov. 20.
